Chana masala veggie burgers

These chana masala veggie burgers are packed with flavor and protein from the chickpeas and spices. They are a delicious and satisfying option for a vegetarian or vegan meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Burger buns
  • Toppings: sliced tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, avocado, yogurt sauce (optional)

Instructions

In a food processor, pulse the chickpeas until they are roughly mashed. You still want some texture, so don't over-process them.

Transfer the mashed chickpeas to a mixing bowl. Add the breadcrumbs, red onion, cilantro, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and lemon juice. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the veggie patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

While the patties are cooking, you can lightly toast the burger buns if desired.

Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them cool slightly.

Assemble your chana masala veggie burgers by placing a patty on a toasted bun. Add your desired toppings such as sliced tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, avocado, and yogurt sauce.

Serve the veggie burgers immediately and enjoy!
