Irish Coffee Tiramisu

Irish Coffee Tiramisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, combining the rich flavors of coffee and whiskey with the creamy texture of mascarpone cheese. This recipe infuses the traditional tiramisu with the warmth of Irish coffee, making it a perfect dessert for gatherings or a luxurious treat. Here’s how to make Irish Coffee Tiramisu:

Ingredients

  • - For the Coffee Mixture
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup Irish whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • - For the Mascarpone Filling
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Irish whiskey
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • - For Assembly
  • 1 package (about 7 ounces) ladyfingers (savoiardi biscuits)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Coffee Mixture

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee, 1/4 cup Irish whiskey, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
Make the Mascarpone Filling

In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until well blended. Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water.

Whisk in the 1/2 cup Irish whiskey and continue to whisk the mixture constantly over the simmering water until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold the mascarpone into the cooled egg mixture until just combined. Then, carefully fold in the whipped cream until the mixture is smooth and no streaks remain.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Quickly dip the ladyfingers into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long or they will fall apart. Lay them in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish or a similar-sized serving dish.

Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the layer of ladyfingers. Smooth the top with a spatula.

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone filling. Smooth the top again.

Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
Serve

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate, if desired.
