New diets come out every day, and they never go out of vogue.
Why? Because people are always struggling with their weight and are always looking for new ways to lose weight. The Sirtfood diet is a new addition to the long list of dieting options, and we’ve done the research for you to find out if this is a good fit to meet your health and weight loss needs.
What is the Sirtfood Diet?
The Sirtfood diet is another diet that is currently in vogue. It was developed by Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten, two nutritionists who work for a private gym in the USA. The diet was introduced in a book they co-authored.
This book is called The Official Sirtfood Diet. It has been widely reviewed on platforms such as Amazon and is generally favored by readers. In the book, Goggins and Matten explain how the diet releases a gene in the body which is dubbed the ‘skinny gene.’ This gene helps the body burn fat faster.
The nutritionists-turned-authors claim that this diet will help you lose weight in a month and even increase your longevity.
The diet consists of foods that contain a group of seven proteins called sirtuins, or SIRTs. These seven proteins improve metabolism, lifespan and inflammation. They are given the acclaimed effect of fast weight loss and increased life span.
This is attractive to people who want to lose weight fast and stay healthier for a longer, higher-quality life.
How does it Work?
There are two phases to the Sirtfood diet. Both phases are necessary for the diet to take it’s full course and bring out results. Both phases take less than a month to complete.
The first phase takes 7 days to complete. There are a lot of calorie restrictions in this section as well as a lot of green tea consumption.
By cutting down calories and drinking a ton of green tea, the body jumpstarts weight loss. The authors have claimed that you can lose as much as seven pounds during this phase (2.2 kg.).
In this the first 3 days of this phase, your calorie intake needs to be reduced to 1000 calories.
You have to choose one food from the options listed in the Sirtfood book – it doesn’t matter which one it is. They all contain the right amount of Sirtfood protein.
Examples of such food includes miso glazed tofu and seafood omelets, or a Shem.
In the 4-7 days of phase one, your calorie can be increased to 1500 calories.
This phase is called the maintenance phase and it lasts for a total of 12 days. However, there’s no specific calorie limit for this phase. You can eat as many calories as you want!
Again, you’re going to be choosing from the food choices listed in the book. The focus is on consuming foods that contain situin, the protein that will stimulate weight loss.
Foods that Contain Sirtuin:
- Half a green apple
- Half a lemon
- 30 gram (1 ounce) arugula (rocket)
- 2 celery sticks
In this case, you’ll be asked to combine the above ingredients in a juice or smoothie – except for a lemon. You add that in separately by squeezing the juice.
The above mixture, as an example, should be consumed 3x a day to get the correct amount of sirtuin-containing foods into your system.
What Happens After the Diet?
Now that you have completed the three week diet plan, are there any next steps or monitoring that should be done?
It’s important to continue to include sirtfood in your diet as much as possible to ensure that long-lasting weight loss continues. If, for whatever reason, you’re unable to maintain a diet rich in sirtfood options, you can always re-start the phases as needed.
Moreso, you are encouraged to keep drinking green juice every day, while snacking on sirtfood-heavy foods when possible.
Eventually, Sirtfood won’t just become a diet, but a lifestyle.
Who should Participate?
The authors have made it clear that this diet is geared toward people who want to lose weight and increase their longevity. Anyone who has had trouble maintaining other diets, or just getting other diets to actually work, should give the Sirtfood diet a try.
Is the Sirtfood Diet Healthy?
Unfortunately, not all diets are actually healthy for you – especially long-term. You might be considering trying out the Sirtfood diet, but how do you know it won’t have harmful side effects?
There is no doubt that sirtfood is good for the body. These are healthy food choices focused on protein, and calorie reduction, which can in fact be detrimental long-term, only occurs for a short period of time.
Research has shown that many of the foods included in the sirtfood diet have added health benefits for the human body. For example, it is a well-established fact that green tea may reduce the risk for stroke and lower your risk for diabetes.
In addition, dark chocolate high in cocoa may reduce the risk for heart disease and help fight inflammation.
However, although research done on animals has proven sirtfood can increase their lifespan, there are no similar experiments and research on human beings to prove this claim.
A Doctor’s Opinion
Medical professionals such as Dietitian Emer Delaney have raised some concerns over this diet as they believe that it causes weight loss too fast. Moreover, any fast weight loss schemes are usually not genuine and can cause more harm than good.
They believe it is better to go through the slow process of losing weight, which can be frustrating for those who want to see visible changes in the short-run, but is actually healthier in the long-run.
Doctors raised the concern that it might be body fluid that was getting lost during the phases and not actual fat being burned away. It is such that when people resume their normal diet and regain fluid, they will go back to their original weight.
The sirtfood diet, while it has health benefits, does not include enough of a balanced diet for people. There is a stipulated amount of protein and calories that should be consumed per day, depending on the age and gender of an individual. However this diet does not take these things into consideration.
The Sirtfood diet was created and introduced in a book authored by two USA gym nutritionists. They came up with a diet that includes sirtuin, which is a protein that is healthy for the body and activates the skinny gene in the human body. The diet has two phases spanning a total of just under a month of dedication. Some health professionals believe that this diet might not achieve the results most individuals are looking for long-term.
